SEO Consultant in Seattle

From Teacher to Travel Writer to SEO Consultant

My path into SEO didn’t start in marketing. It started in a classroom.

For ten years, I was an elementary school teacher in Bellevue. Teaching trains your brain to break complex ideas into clear concepts, recognize patterns in systems, and help people understand things that initially feel confusing.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but those skills would later become my biggest advantage in SEO.

In 2015, while still teaching full-time, I launched a travel website. At first, I simply wrote about trips and destinations I loved. But I quickly realized something frustrating: great content didn’t automatically mean people would find it.

That curiosity sent me down the rabbit hole of search engines, content strategy, and digital marketing.

By 2017, I had left teaching, published a travel book, and earned a certification in digital marketing. I began volunteering my marketing skills with local nonprofits in Seattle and gradually moved into freelance digital marketing work.

When my daughter was born in 2018, I took a step back from client work to focus on family. During that time, I continued volunteering at Magnolia Cooperative Preschool in Seattle, first as their social media manager and later as Director of Marketing on the board, where I managed a small marketing team.

It was through these experiences that I discovered where my brain naturally gravitates: search strategy.

Not just SEO tactics, but understanding why search works, where it breaks down, and how to align it with real business growth.

Today, I work with growing businesses that want organic search to become a reliable source of customers and revenue.

Who I Work With

Most businesses I work with fall into one of two stages:

Businesses Ready to Start Investing in SEO

You know organic search matters, but you haven’t invested much into SEO yet. Maybe you’ve written a few blog posts or set up your website, but there hasn’t been a clear strategy guiding it.

In this stage, the biggest opportunity is building the right foundation so your website can start attracting the right traffic and turning that traffic into customers.

Businesses That Have Tried SEO but Haven’t Seen Revenue Impact

You’ve already invested time or money into SEO. You may have traffic, blog content, or even rankings, but it hasn’t translated into meaningful leads or sales.

This happens a lot, and in many cases, the issue isn’t effort. It’s alignment.

The wrong pages are ranking, the site structure limits growth, or the strategy isn’t connected to the parts of the business that actually generate revenue.

That’s where I do my best work.

How I Approach SEO Differently

A lot of SEO advice focuses on activity:

more keywords
more content
more backlinks

But if organic search hasn’t produced the results you expected, the problem is often deeper.

In many businesses, the real issue is structural misalignment.

That might mean things like:

  • website architecture hiding valuable pages

  • content ranking for the wrong search intent

  • blog traffic that never connects to revenue pages

  • internal linking structures limiting growth

  • SEO strategies disconnected from the rest of marketing

Instead of treating SEO as a checklist of tasks, I approach it as a system that should support your business goals.

When that system is aligned properly, organic search can become one of the most sustainable and scalable sources of customers.

My Unfair Advantages as an SEO Consultant

Over the years, I’ve realized my strongest contributions to clients come from a few key strengths.

I diagnose structural issues most SEO strategies miss

Many SEO efforts focus on surface-level optimizations. I look deeper at how search intent, site structure, and page targeting interact, and where misalignment is quietly limiting growth.

I connect SEO to the bigger marketing system

SEO doesn’t operate in isolation. I look at how organic search interacts with content strategy, conversion paths, and paid marketing so it contributes to real business outcomes.

I question the data instead of blindly trusting tools

SEO tools provide helpful estimates, but they aren’t perfect. I analyze actual search results, competitors, and user behavior to understand what the data truly means.

I find opportunities hiding in existing search demand

Many businesses already have untapped opportunities within their current site and content. Identifying those opportunities often leads to the fastest growth.

I make complex strategy clear and actionable

The teacher in me still shows up in my work. I help clients understand not just what to do, but why it works, so teams can make smarter decisions as they grow.

Where Most Clients Start

Depending on your stage, there are two common starting points.

SEO Growth Plan
For growing businesses that haven’t invested deeply in SEO yet and want a clear strategy for building a strong organic foundation.

Organic Revenue Reset
For businesses that have already invested in SEO but haven’t seen it translate into meaningful revenue, leads, or sales.

Both focus on aligning organic search with your business goals, just from different starting points.
